Held in February 2016 at Jackson State University’s Fannie Lou Hamer Institute, Planet Deep South invited scholars, artists, and students to explore the intellectual and creative expression of people of African descent through a series of historical and speculative panel discussions on southern Black cultural production. On a panel comprised of Zandria F. Robinson, Kinitra D. Brooks, and Aisha Durham, I presented new work on how the music videos of Atlanta-born hip hop duo, OutKast, constitute unique and speculative forms of black visual culture in the post-civil rights American South.
