The Black Portrait

FEAT-year-in-black-art-2018

Black portraiture is everywhere—museums, the White House, the cover of Vanity Fair, and the University of Delaware. Using the University of Delaware’s premier African American art collection, which includes the Paul R. Jones gift, students examine the evolution and recent popularity of the black portrait. Students also investigate how artists of African descent have changed the conventions of portraiture and ideas about picturing the self.
